@Beuli: I wouldn't be surprised if they were, actually. Disneyland in particular is a pretty popular destination for Japanese tourists, since it's not too far a trip for them. I'm sure they've been exposed to Disney characters quite a bit.

@cliffhanger - C isn't really a proper lock-on, it just centres the camera, and not always well enough. Was an absolute nightmare trying to hurl paint at enemies while also running away from them, causing the camera to spin around. Coped well enough, but I didn't feel like I was in enough control. Great game though.

Sequel will probably happen despite Disney pulling out of the console biz to concentrate on smartphones and handhelds. Though if I were Disney, I would just concentrate on the Wii as it has been a very profitable landscape for their games in contrast toward the other two systems. I'm a little bit of a 360 fanboy, but it is what it is.

I'm with NoirSon, I initially expected this to sell between 1.2-1.5M copies but seeing how successful this game has become; 2-2.5M is not out of the question. If it gets a Japanese release it could do 3M easy making this the most successful Disney endevour in quite a while.
Message | Report
NoirSon posted 02/01/2011, 07:28
I'd wager closer to 2.5, but that is dependent on if the game is ever released in Japan and if it is done with enough press. If it goes more then that.

@ wordslinger, I just finished the game tonight too and agree with pretty much everything you said, except that there is a lock on target (c button) but I rarely used it cause I didn't think it worked very well, and thought free aiming was easier to do, although like you said, tight areas got frustrating sometimes. My playtime was just over 19 hours, which is longer than I expected for sure.
Message | Report
TheWordslinger posted 02/01/2011, 03:28
Just completed this after a week of lengthy playtime. Clocked in at 20 hours, but I'm not sure if that includes cut scenes, re-starting levels after dying, etc. Certainly seems like I've played more than 20 hours, been putting in 3-4 hour shifts almost every night of the past week. Anyway, I really enjoyed the game. Criticism was overblown; camera is bad, but didn't ruin the game. Only other complaint was lack of lock-on targetting, which combined with poor cmaera made for some frustrating battles in tight areas. Gameplay is fun, some original ideas with paint and thinner. Story was one of the best I've ever experienced in a game, especially platformers. I don't think I've ever cared about characters so much. 8.5/10 for me. Fingers crossed for a sequel.

The week-on-week increase in sales in EMEAA is nothing short of remarkable. Hopefully these sales prompt the go ahead for a sequel to improve upon the issues of the original. I'm halfway through and it's a much longer trek than I imagined, and although I'm really enjoying the game it does have some quirks that a sequel could iron out. Mickey deserves to be franchised on Nintendo consoles.

Yes I am also excited over these sales. Maybe it'll convince Disney to continue making console games. The Wii continues to give them good sales for minimal risk/investment. Just look at sales for ToyStory, Alice in Wonderland, etc. These software provides Disney with good revenue at almost guranteed profit on the Wii.

I understand the complaints about the camera. i still enjoy the game quite a bit, but the complaints are reasonable. About half the time the camera is passable, about 40 percent of the time the camera is bad/unhelpful and 10 percent of the time thecamera is about a pleasant as a physcotic badger with rabies. The camera annoys me, but does not ruin the game for me.

@darkeagle If legs hold up and it gets released in Japan then yes 2M is possible. But if it is only for EMEAA and America's 1.5 the most. Still it passed the Wii 3rd party exclusive curse (>400K) and should reach 1M a few months after Christmas.

1,3 m lifetime is way too low. 2 m without any doubt maybe 3-4, depends on the legs. this game will sell for a long time.
