@teamsilent13 - My point Halo 5 isn't mass bundled. The people getting the Halo 5 bundle are paying $450-500.

@Mr Pugglsy I read that Bundle sales were included, but straight download sales from the app store were not.

Darkenergy, I never said there weren't more but it was the top bundle that month and it should be factored in. The 400m included a lot more than just the game and it's not profit. Hell they probably spent 150m on advertising alone. I've been seeing halo 5 TV adverts since January. These sales are very disappointing by halo's standards.

@think-man yeah, rip to a game that made $400 million in one week. Seriously Halo is nowhere near dead there will be a Halo 6 and beyond for many years to come.

@onekartvita there are far more Fallout 4 bundles that are $399/$349 and are way more common than the Halo 5 bundles, so there shouldn't be any less bundles of Fallout 4.

After 3 weeks it's still below 2m (retail plus bundled digital). Fallout 4 on x1 nearly outsold it week 1 and it had way less bundles for its launch. Halo is definitely falling down the pecking order.

@tripen COD games almost always sell better than Halo even on the 360 ever since Modern Warfare 2 released.

I repost sales analysis since launch :
Hi,

A topic to follow Halo 5's performances around the world.

Here are a few analysis (don't forget that VGC only track retail sales and not digital ones, which can represent different percentages of the sales depending on games, up to 25% I've read):

1. US: With 930,385 units sold on week 1, it is the third best US launch on Xbox One after Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 (1,346,703) and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (1,034,718).

2. UK: with 157,895 units sold in 5 days it is only the 7th best launch on One after FIFA 16 (345,473 in 3 days), Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 (287,421), Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (231,977 in 5 days), FIFA 15 (217,381 in 3 days), Grand Theft Auto V (166,151 in 5 days) and Destiny (159,262 in 5 days).

3. France: 3rd best opening on One (56k) after FIFA 16 (93k) and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (73k).

4. Germany : 45,003 units sold : 6th best launch on One after FIFA 15 (61k), Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (60k), FIFA 16 (58k), Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 (56k) and Grand Theft Auto V (51k). The classic big 3 series in Europe.

5. Japan: 7k : 4th best launch on One after Titanfall (22k), Kinect Sports Rivals (14k) and Dead Rising 3 (8k).

6. Europe: with 362k it is the 4th best launch on One after FIFA 16 (695k), Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (511k) and FIFA 15 (461k). Not bad.

7. Global: with 1,457,849 units sold, it is the 3rd best launch on Xbox One after Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (1,727,455) and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 (1.46 million in North America alone, still waiting the data to come for global sales).

8. US week 2: with 185,985 units, Halo 5's week 2 sales are the 2nd best week 2 sales on Xbox One after Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (200,379, which is 8% higher, week 1 was 11% higher). After two weeks of sales, Halo 5's launch sales (1,116,370) are the 3rd best ones on Xbox One after Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 (1,346,703 in only one week of sales) and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (1,235,097).

9. UK week 2: with 34,737 units, Halo 5's week 2 is the 6th better week 2 on Xbox One after FIFA 16 (84,833), Grand Theft Auto V (56,291), FIFA 15 (51,709), Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (51,400), and now also after FIFA 14 (38,212) which had a week one 35 % weaker than Halo 5's. Destiny being beaten (only 29,635, which is 17 % less than Halo 5's). After two weeks of sales, Halo 5's launch sales (192,632) are the 5th best ones on Xbox One now beating Destiny's (188,897) and still ahead of FIFA 14 (155,507). Moreover, Halo: MCC had 53 % less sales in week 1, and in week 2 it had even 66 % less sales.

10. Germany week 2: with 9,989 units sold on week 2, it is the 5th best week 2 on Xbox One after Grand Theft Auto V (18,407), Far Cry 4 (16,204), FIFA 16 (15,539) and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare (10,056). Don't forget that nowadays 25 % of sales are digital (VGC only track retail), each year they're missing a lot of sales, Halo 5 could be at 50 % digital, who knows... Just look at the weak PC retail sales, that's where console video games are going.

Ouch. Those are pretty bad numbers for something as hyped as a new Halo game. Hopefully week 2 redeems it, but damn. I was expecting 2.5 million at least, which still wouldn't put it at Halo 3 level, but would be at least decent. Halo is Microsoft's bread and butter. Thought the buggy MCC would cause some decline, but this is ridiculous.

Halo won't die as long as the xbox lives and Microsoft make games be it console or pc. The series is going from mega to major.

It will be interesting to see if the next one holds or declines further. If it's not halo 6 a title like Odst the decline be another big one.

@teamsilent13 - I wouldn't be surprised is they make the cosmetic stuff easier to get over time. Especially if they are gonna keep adding more.

Warzone mode isn't balanced mode nor is it supposed to be. Which is why its kept separate from other multiplayer modes. The micro transactions are more time savers than pay to win. People that think its pay to win probably haven't spent time with it.

Halo 2 dwarfed COD 2, and Halo 3 sold better than COD 4 and held onto the #1 Live spot for two years during COD 4 and COD 5. MW2 knocked it off and for a couple weeks it was back #1 when ODST launched. MW2 was what dethroned Halo, but Reach was top 5 for the better part of two years. Halo 4 on the other hand dropped out of top 5 after a few weeks and barely held 20k population peaks during weekends being passed by 5 COD games on its 1 year anniversary. It only took a couple months to drop to lows and force the game to be $20...about eight months after it died they had $40 goty edition and it still couldn't reach 20k peaks. Pathetic. Halo 5 probably has worse sales numbers just due to the console transition, but in order to judge if it is a success we need to see its population numbers. It seems 343i removed the player counter or I can't find it. On the dashboard I see it's already out of the top 5 which is a bit worrying.

teamsilent13 posted 19/11/2015, 11:03
@Mr Puggsly if you watch angry joe he is only talking about helmets and armor when calculating the time it takes to grind req packs. he says cosmetic but he doesn't factor in weapon skins or emblems let alone all the non cosmetics like armor mods, primary variants and certifications for weapons or vehicles. it is the definition of pay-to-win because you get more stuff that affects the game, although it's no where near the worse model. there's a lot of stuff like armor mods or certifications which do help you and personally i run out of overshields and such. if you had a lot of overshields or speed boost you could literally use one every minute and pretty much never run out. so i think pay to win is still a valid complaint although i wouldn't go to far and say the game is broken. pay doesn't give skill, but it can help you win. just a fact. i don't have certifications for a lot of things and only one armor mod that is crap, while some players have extra shields armor mods and sniper and shotgun variants and plenty of overshields or fuel rod cannons to use at their disposal

By the way, a friendly reminder Halo 5 has only had one third of the time all Halo games had on their NPDs... so in a way, the number should, technically, be around 3 million units if it had the same time. Only November will tell if it had the same legs as its predecessors or if it really sold poorly.

It feels like a great game, that's for sure, even if the Campaign fell short of others.

Looks like an immediate adjustment up 800,000 in the US to make it over a million there. While on the surface that looks poor compared to previous games I believe the number is much higher with bundles. (i can't see how they're included here) A lot of the 360 owners are actually Halo fans, and thus have been waiting for a new Halo to make the leap to the next gen. I think the recent reports of the One topping October's console sales justify this theory. Actual owners of this game could therefore be closer to 2 mill than 1. (and it will have legs all xmas for sure)

Microsoft would have been better off getting some of their exclusives out in the first 8 months where they had nothing of note at retail. Instead they sent tomb raider out to die and severely damaged their biggest franchise.

@Kai Master those franchises are really popular. They sell ALOT of software even the Halo series couldn't match COD and FIFA sales on the 360 in the UK. So I wouldn't really call it a disappointment. As for Destiny, Halo 5 will likely pass it's lifetime sales in the UK and with the holidays it will have great legs.

It takes a thousand hours to earn the REQ packs. You have to play Halo 5 for six weeks without sleep or food to earn everything. This is not reasonable. Also most people paid $60 for the shortest Halo campaign ever and striped down multiplayer.

I have mixed feelings on this one (which is a compliment over Halo 4). This feels like a good game, but not a great game. The campaign started strong, but became increasingly linear and boring in the later missions. The story is both rushed and short. Characters are void of personality or contribution to the plot. Then there's Warzone which provides a fresh take on Halo multiplayer. However, Warzone includes pay-to-win with Premium and Gold REQ packs and only has three maps in rotation. I could honestly come down a lot harsher than this because 343i has done things that I simply do not accept with the Halo title, but I will overlook that because at least it's good at what it is trying to do where Halo 4 failed on all levels.
