@DieApplyDie. Even when the game came out the turn based gameplay was outdated and stale. But everything else was amazing. If it wasn't for the gameplay this would be better than FF10 and FF12 in my opinion.

Very hillarious that this game somehow manages to crawl to 5m after DQIX. Great for the series though. Let's go for 10m with DQX!

Classic RPG, that's what it is...

I do like classic rpg like SNES FF, but there's something in this one that really pissed me off.

Environnements Graphics were great thanks to level-5... but i'm no fan of Akira work.

Sound wise, musics were great and grand but really got on my nerves after some time...

I hate grinding and this is why I never got to finish this game...

8/10 For R-E-A-L hardcore gamers

6/10 for me...

I loved it. I even loved the monster arena part of it. The story might have been simple, but that also makes it memorable. And a playable ending was a nice touch.

Why can't there be three different people who loathe this game?
Besides, NightStalker, looking at his avatar, evidently likes FF IX, and I dislike that game. And no, I didn't write the article, I think the music wasn't bad, something that the writer does.

This game and Xenogears are the only 2 RPG's in which I have devoted over 100 hours of playtime for each game. Pure greatness.

also forgot to mention. the saving system sucked. going to a church to save and not being to on a world map was annoying as hell. also I find it odd that a game that involved so much exploring didn't have a tent system, when you know any adventurer would set up a freaking tent and not have to get to an inn to rest. they made up a lil for it by not starting u over when u die, but just returning you back to the last place u saved. but that wasn't enough to make me happy.

graphics are great and the game made me laugh a bit, but overall an average game. The battle system is just really boring. I didn't think RPGs were made with a battle system anymore where there is no real-time feature. It is actually surprising that Level 5 developed this b/c their games all have real-time fighting, but I know it was SE doing. I also hate the fact that leveling is soo important. There are points where I have to sit and train b/c I'm too weak or w/e. The story also seems to be mostly filler. I go somewhere, but find out i need an item and then I go to get it, but have to complete some stupid task like I'm some errand boy to get it, and even after I need to do something to get it to work. There is nothing epic about it, and i feel like the game is lasting forever. so yea a 5/10 from me.

A game that could have been great if it was released in 1990, but as an RPG of 2006, it simply fails. The story isn't terrible, because there is no story whatsoever, it's just a "go to place, help the guy/girl, recieve as reward an item that allows you to continue your quest seeking for the bad guy". No interesting twist, no character development, nothing. The battle system is horribly derivative and uninspired, and the lack of characters and the fact that their paths are mostly preset limit a lot the customization, meaning that you don't have many choices over how to develop them. In the end, given the amazing library of RPGs of the PS2 (Star Ocean 3, Final Fantasy X, Persona 3, Suikoden V, SMT: Nocturne, Xenosaga, etc.), and their amazing stories and battle systems, this game simply fails to live to that library. At least, that's how I see it. 4/10
